“Celebrating Sin”

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God… – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

We live in a hedonistic world that viciously reviles the Word of God and openly celebrates sin that is an abomination to God.

As Christians, we live among a people that are running headlong to hell and are proud of it. The saddest part of this is that many of these people profess to be Christian, yet deny the Truth of the Word of God and instead embrace sinful societal norms.

For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. … – Hebrews 10:26-29

When New York Gov. Cuomo signed the legislation legalizing late-term abortions he had the spire of the World Trade Center lit up in pink to celebrate. We have seen similar celebrations in Argentina and Ireland when the murder of the unborn has been legalized.

A couple recently announced on social media their intent to live together outside of marriage. God’s Word calls it fornication yet so many of the congratulatory comments celebrating their ‘commitment’ came from professing, church-going Christians.

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. – 1 Corinthians 6:18

There are worldwide gay pride celebrations held every year in a party atmosphere celebrating a sin that God calls an abomination to Him.

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. – Romans 1:24-27

It is a helpless feeling to watch family, friends, neighbors and coworkers on the broad path to destruction and eternal separation from God. What can we do? We can pray and speak Truth as the Holy Spirit directs. It is the work of the Holy Spirit that will change the hearts of others to turn them away from sin. Our prayers may be sighs and groans but the Lord understands them,

And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city…and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” – Ezekiel 9:4

May you stand firm with the full armor of God. Pray in the Spirit for those who are perishing and be ready to speak the Truth of salvation through Jesus to those whose hearts have been prepared to receive it.

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. – Hebrews 3:13
