“Great Things”

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad. – Psalm 126:2-3

Have you ever paused to reflect during your quiet time with the Lord on the great things He has done for you?

Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you. – 1 Samuel 12:24

It is easy to marvel at the greatness of God when we see the intricacies, complexities, and vast variety of His creation in the heavens and on earth. But what about the great things He has done for you and for me personally?

Oftentimes our present trials and difficulties cast a shadow on the great things God has done for us.

By prayerfully reflecting on these things the Holy Spirit lifts the cloud of despair and the light of faith floods our present circumstances and we are filled with joy and confidence in the Lord.

And yet there are so much more of the great things God has for us in this life and for eternity.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. – 1 Corinthians 13:12; – Jeremiah 33:3

Has God ever healed you? Has He ever given you peace – the peace that surpasses understanding – in difficult times? Has He ever provided for you to rebuild your lives after a catastrophic loss? Has He been faithful to restore broken relationships and heal the hurt of a broken heart? Has He ever shown you mercy when you know you deserved wrath? Has He forgiven your sins and granted you eternal life through Jesus?

Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first. I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me. – Jeremiah 33:6-8

Of all the great things God has done for us in this world, the sum of them cannot even begin to compare to the gift of eternal life He has provided for us through Jesus.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

May the joy of the Lord flood your heart, mind and soul as you reflect on the great things He has done and will do in your life now and forever.

Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, O God, who is like you? Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. – Psalm 71:19; Ephesians 3:20-21
