B2B Concert of Prayer – Our Father’s Approval #985

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 985

earthly-dad-whollyhis“Our Father’s Approval”

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:21 (ESV)

Never underestimate the power a father has over his children. As a child I always strived to gain my dad’s approval for what I did. This desire never left me well into adulthood.

My dad passed away in 2010 and as I reflect now upon his life I began a self-examination of how, as a father, I have treated my children. I also gained a renewed understanding and appreciation of how perfect our Father God is.

While on this earth, in this temporary life, we are to be about our Father in heaven’s business. Whatever we do, at work, at home or at play as well as within the church community, we are to do as if we are working for our Father God.

Jesus taught a parable about a Master who entrusted his servants with money management (talents) while he was away. When he returned, those who did well were promoted and rewarded with those wonderful words of approval ‘Well done’.

Our Father God is quick to affirm us and He is also quick to correct and discipline us in love. He coaches us and guides us in the proper way we are to live.

As a father, how quick are we to affirm our children and to coach them in the proper way? Would our children categorize us as always critical? Would they say that they could never measure up – never do anything right in their father’s eyes?

Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Colossians 3:21 (ESV)

Examine your ‘fatherhood’ style in light of God’s example. It is an awesome responsibility to be a father. Although imperfect, you set the example of Father God for your children. Your life example points them to their Father in Heaven. Will you raise them up to know, love and respect Him?

Material gifts will not heal wounds or be a substitute for proper parenting. The greatest gift you can give to your children is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and to love their mother as Christ loves the church.

May you reflect on your fatherhood style. May the Holy Spirit empower you to reflect Father God as a Dad to your children. May you love your wife as Christ loves the church and may you lead your children in the respect and worship of our Father in Heaven.

Happy Father’s Day!

B2B Concert of Prayer – What the Future Holds #984

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 984

What_Does_The_Future_Hold_Graphic“What the Future Holds”

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:34)

Have you ever been on an amusement park ride and you could not wait for it to stop so you could get off? Our current social and political climate has become such a ride that has me saying, ‘Stop the world, I want to get off.’

Unless you are totally off the grid, you are aware of the degradation of our society. Our schools have become war zones. Respect for human life seems to be at an all time low given the road rage incidences on our streets, and the drive by shootings and murder that occur daily in our communities. There was more public outcry for a lion and gorilla that were killed than there is for the thousands of babies murdered in the womb each week.

I never in my wildest imaginations would have believed that ‘gender identity’ would become the issue it has become, opening the doors for anyone to violate the privacy and safety of others by being allowed to use any public restroom of their choosing – and this being sanctioned by law!

Then there is our current political climate – candidate choices that have many of us fearing that we will be voting for who can do the least harm over the next four years rather than voting for who can benefit our society.

My heart breaks for those who have denied Christ or are Christian in name only by playing church and have compromised with the corruptness of the world. … they have all turned to their own way, each to his own gain, one and all. “Come,” they say, “let me get wine; let us fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow will be like this day, great beyond measure.” (Isaiah 56:11-12)

The lukewarm or cold hearted toward God would do well to heed the Word of God: “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:6-7)

No matter how bad the present times seem the Lord speaks peace and comfort to us through His Word. I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5) No matter how bleak the future looks; we know who holds the future in His hands. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

My times are in your hand; (Psalm 31:15)

Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. (Proverbs 3:25-26)

When I think that I want the world to stop so I can get off, the Lord speaks encouragement to my heart: ‘The world will stop soon enough and you will get off when I call you home to be with Me. Until then, be salt and light in the world. Be my witness and share the Gospel of My salvation. Seek first My kingdom and My righteousness and occupy until I come’

B2B Concert of Prayer – Mirror Mirror #983

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 983

Mirror“Mirror Mirror”

As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man. (Proverbs 27:19)

How many times do you look in a mirror during your daily routine? If you are like me you see your reflection numerous times every day in a wide variety of reflective surfaces.

Have you ever paused to reflect on your reflection? Perhaps you notice your hair or a new wrinkle in your face or that broccoli floret stuck in your teeth that you hurriedly work to remove.

Your reflection allows you to see what others see when they look at you.

Reflect on your reflection from a spiritual perspective for a moment. God’s Word says that our heart reflects who we truly are. Do you and others see a person in whom the whole fullness of deity resides?

For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him… (Colossians 2:9)

Do you reflect Christ?

The life of Jesus is manifested in us (2 Corinthians 4:11)

If we are honest with ourselves we have to acknowledge that we are more concerned with our outward appearance – our ‘mask’ than we are with the life, love, mercy, and grace of our Lord being manifested in our lives.

What do you and others see in your eyes?

The eye is the lamp of the body. (Matthew 6:22)

If the light of Jesus abides in us then our eyes and mannerisms reflect the fruit of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; (Galatians 5:22)

Reflect on your reflection again. Do you and others see a humble jar of clay that contains the priceless treasure of the abiding presence of our Holy God?

…But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us…. (2 Corinthians 4:6-8)

May the Holy Spirit speak to your heart every time you see your reflection. May He show you your worth in Christ. May He empower you to boldly live for Christ reflecting His power and presence in every aspect of your daily life.

B2B Concert of Prayer – Morally Calloused #982

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 982

“Morally Calloused”

My conscience is clear …1 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV)

CONSCIENCE refers in general to that human moral awareness that judges an action right or wrong. “Conscience” in the New Testament is the translation of a Greek word that means ‘to know with.’ The etymology of the word is from the Latin and means knowledge within oneself, a moral sense. This suggests a moral consciousness which compares an action with a standard of behavior for that action.

Our problem today is that our society has substituted God’s absolute standard as defined in His Word with the liberal ‘standard du jour’ that changes to fit the whim of elected officials and appointed judges and is shaped by the pressure of minority factions and the media. Hardly an evening news broadcast goes by without reporting on some tragic human event concerning man’s inhumanity to man. Teens are being tried as adults for sexual assault and for murder. It appears that more and more heinous crimes are being committed by younger children every day.

The so called ‘mature’ video games that recent generations of our youth and young adults have immersed themselves into has worked to callous and warp their moral value system with respect to the sanctity of human life and purity of sexual relationships. Movies using the latest technology have blurred the lines of reality and fiction with ever increasing ‘shock value’ depicting the abuse, torture, rape, and murder of human beings in graphic detail. Constant exposure to such ‘entertainment’ works to further callous an already insensitive heart.

So called ‘mature’ adults have also allowed their consciences to become calloused by going with the flow of compromised societal norms. ‘Everyone does it’ has become the motto of justifying their actions. Seemingly innocuous theft such as taking office supplies for personal use, cheating on taxes, or accepting change for a $20 when paying with a $10 bill has become a ‘normal’ and acceptable practice. Infidelity, divorce, adultery, and same sex marriages are now commonplace, as we have allowed the media to indoctrinate us to a new moral standard.

The truth of the matter is that our society’s human moral awareness, our conscience, has become calloused and insensitive over many years. The process is just like when we first began to walk barefoot at the start of the summer season. Initially, our feet are tender and sensitive and yet by the end of summer, our soles have become sufficiently calloused that we hardly notice the hot pavement or the tiny pebbles that we step on.

In like manner our souls have become insensitive through the moral callousing of our consciences over time as we have allowed the standard of God’s Word to be replaced with the corrupt societal standards as well as watered down to be more politically correct and acceptable.

How sensitive is your conscience? Is it truly clear when compared to the standard of God’s Word? Or is it so calloused that it is unfeeling and you only think it is clear? Don’t let yourself feel only the extreme moral transgressions. Ask the Lord to make you sensitive to His standard, to the whole Word of truth. Allow the oil of God’s Holy Spirit to penetrate deeply and soften the areas that have become calloused through moral compromise. Let Him truly provide you with a clear conscience through Jesus Christ.

B2B Concert of Prayer – Tobiah’s Chamber #981

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 981

nehemiah“Tobiah’s Chamber”

Now before this, Eliashib the priest, who was appointed over the chambers of the house of our God, and who was related to Tobiah, prepared for Tobiah a large chamber where they had previously put the grain offering, the frankincense, the vessels, and the tithes of grain, wine, and oil, which were given by commandment to the Levites, singers, and gatekeepers, and the contributions for the priests… (Nehemiah 13:4-5)

During a recent study of the Book of Nehemiah, light was shed on this passage found in chapter 13 that I had never noticed before despite countless readings of the book. Recall that this Tobiah who has taken up residence in the house of God is the same Tobiah who along with Sanballat opposed the work of rebuilding the walls of the city. But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard this, it displeased them greatly that someone had come to seek the welfare of the people of Israel. (Nehemiah 2:10)

Reflect on the following life lessons from this passage:

Eliashib…was appointed…and…related to Tobiah – We must be diligent in following God’s Word in who we appoint to be leaders in our homes, churches, local, state, and federal governments. How many have suffered from unholy alliances, being unequally yoked in marriage? How many church communities have suffered harm from appointing elders and deacons because of popularity and worldly power and position rather than being anointed with God’s Holy Spirit?

…prepared for Tobiah a large chamber… – Here we find an enemy of the Lord and of the church taking up residence in the Temple of God. Notice that the chamber occupied by Tobiah was the chamber that was intended to store the resources of the church for ministry. Hardly a day goes by without the media exposing the misuse and abuse of funds by charitable organizations, Christian churches included. How many church and Christian charities have allowed a ‘Tobiah’ of greed and avarice to siphon ministry resources for personal gain and material possessions?

The application of God’s Word here goes beyond the corporate to that of the personal for we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? … (1Corinthians 6:19-20)

How many of us are less than faithful stewards of God’s provision for our lives? How many of us have allowed the ‘Tobiah’ of the love of material wealth to take up residence in our heart thereby displacing a generous and faithful steward’s heart for the ministry of our Lord? Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. (Malachi 3:8-10)

May the Holy Spirit fill you with the zeal to ‘throw the Tobiah’s out of your life. …I was very angry, and I threw all the household furniture of Tobiah out of the chamber… (Nehemiah 13:6-9)

May you hear the Lord say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’ (Matthew 5:21)

B2B Concert of Prayer – What The Bleep #980

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 980

bleep“What the Bleep”

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. (Psalm 119:9)

A reality TV show was on while I prepared dinner the other day and I became keenly aware of the fact that the dialog was laced with *bleep* sounds to the point of annoyance. I had to wonder what redeeming value there was in watching and listening to such a program. I found myself ‘filling in the bleep’ in my mind with the appropriate vulgarity rendering the attempt at censorship null and void. The atmosphere in my home was being polluted.

God’s law of sowing and reaping is evident in our world environment: sow poison into the atmosphere and soil and reap unhealthy air and tainted food along with the physical disorders that result. God’s law of sowing and reaping also applies to the spiritual realm. What is the “acceptable amount” of poison that you are allowing yourself to ingest through sight and sound?

Do you immerse your mind into the cesspool of violence, immorality, and vulgarities found in certain music, video games, and television? Are you entertained by movies or games that have ‘an acceptable amount’ of profanity, sex, or violence? … After all, it’s just a little poison.

God’s Word cautions us that A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough – Galatians 5:9… a little poison will corrupt you spiritually.

It may be gradual and subtle at first but you will reap a poisoned harvest. Your language will become coarser and in certain situations you will speak vulgarity. You will one day find that your spouse does not quite live up to the fantasy lover you have poisoned your mind with through pornography and you will be dissatisfied in your marriage. You may even find yourself acting out in accordance with the entertainment you have poisoned yourself with.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. – Galatians 6:7

It is through God’s Grace that we have been saved – don’t disgrace His Grace by continuing to satisfy the cravings of the sinful nature.

We live and work in a poisoned environment. We rub shoulders on a daily basis with many who are in need of salvation through Jesus Christ. There must be a difference evident in our character. How can you draw others into the light of Christ when you exhibit the same darkness because of a poisoned spirit?

…the grace of God … teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age… Titus 2:11

Don’t compromise any longer by allowing what you deem to be an acceptable amount of the poison of this world to contaminate your soul. Put on the full armor of God each day and guard against the environmental pollution that surrounds us.

May your heartfelt prayer be as that of the Psalmist: Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. – Psalm 51:10

B2B Concert of Prayer – Search Me #979

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 979

search me crown “Search me”

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23,24 NIV)

Every one of us has experienced the adrenaline rush of doing something we knew to be wrong. We knew there would be a punishment to endure if we were caught. As children, we were perhaps snooping in forbidden areas, or sneaking a cigarette. As adults, many of us gamble on avoiding the police as we nudge the cruise control setting past the posted limits.

While we may be able to get away with breaking the laws of parents and society and think nothing of it, God will not allow us to escape so easily. The love of God is such that He will pursue us when we wander away from Him. Like the good shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine sheep to go after the lost one, God will continue to call out to us. He knows that if left to wander we will stray too far and become easy prey for the enemy of our soul.

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. (John 6:39)

We know God is calling out to us when we feel troubled in our spirit. We feel uneasy and unable to enjoy peace and rest. We feel distant from God and have a deep longing to return to Him. This is the conviction of God and it is at this critical junction where a most important choice needs to be made. It is at this point that can we say as the Psalmist did: ‘Search me… test me… lead me….’ The alternative choice would be to run away from God as Jonah did only to find himself in the belly of a whale.

Sometimes feelings of anxiety are not God’s conviction but rather an attack from the enemy to steal our joy and peace. Regardless, the remedy for anxious feelings is the same: Seek the face of the Lord and call on the Name of Jesus in worship and praise. If your anxiousness is from the enemy, he will flee and you will rest in the peace of God. If your anxiousness is conviction from the Lord, be earnest to hear from Him and repent when the Holy Spirit reveals to you the error of your ways.

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. (Rev 3:19 NIV)

There is no need for the child of God to lack peace, rest, and joy in all circumstances and trials of this life. We live a life of constant anxiety and unrest only when we choose to continue to go our own way in stubborn pride and rebellion to God.

May you seek the Lord’s peace and pursue it. May you pray in earnest for the Lord to search, test, and lead you – then may you follow Him wholeheartedly.

B2B Concert of Prayer – If My People #978

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 978

if my people“If My People”

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Our land needs healing. One needs only look at the current political climate and state of the union to see how desperately our nation needs healing. We need integrity in leadership. We need a moral center to be reestablished in our leadership. We need men and women in leadership of Judeo-Christian faith who are willing to humble themselves before God and seek His face and to turn this nation from its wicked ways.

We the people—those of us who profess to be Christians—we are the ones who collectively can strongly influence the election of our leadership. Are we willing to humble ourselves and seek the Lord’s face in choosing such people? Or are we seeking a ‘king’ someone just like all the other nations and by doing so reject God?

When Samuel became old, he made his sons judges over Israel… Yet his sons did not walk in his ways but turned aside after gain. They took bribes and perverted justice. Then all the elders of Israel gathered together … and said to him… “Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations… Give us a king to judge us”. And the Lord said to Samuel, “… they have rejected me from being king over them.. (1 Samuel 8:1-8)

God’s chosen person will most likely not fit our expectation. He chose David, Moses, and Gideon. Jesus was also rejected as king because He did not fit the worldly king persona that the people desired.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

We the people, the evangelical church body of Christ in this nation, must be actively involved in the election process. We must not remain apathetic only to complain later about who was elected.

I exhort you my brothers and sisters in Christ to humble yourselves before God and to prayerfully seek His face and direction in this election process. Be involved. Be heard. Be the church, active and alive and influential. Be salt and light in this dark world.

May the Holy Spirit awaken His church in America. May we the people of God, His children, humble ourselves and seek His face and direction to elect leadership with a solid moral center and integrity of character. May we elect leaders who know and fear God and who will humble themselves before God prayerfully seeking His face for wisdom in making America whole and great again.

B2B Concert of Prayer – Visible Grace #977

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 977

God_s Grace “Visible Grace”

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people… Titus 2:11

The early church heard reports from Antioch of great numbers of people coming to salvation through Jesus Christ. This caused the church leaders in Jerusalem to send Barnabas to investigate. The bible tells us that when he arrived he saw or witnessed the grace of God. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad… (Acts 11:23)

It is true that it is by the grace of God that we are saved. Grace is a free, unmerited gift of God. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8)

But what does grace look like? What did Barnabas witness when he arrived in Antioch? How does one see grace? The answer to what grace looks like lies in discovering what grace does in us and through us. Grace trains us to renounce ungodliness and to allow the fruit of God’s Holy Spirit to manifest itself in our daily lives. For the grace of God has appeared… training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age… (Titus 2:12)

Grace empowers us to repent and turn away from the ungodly lusts of our flesh. Grace brings us under the headship of Jesus and away from under the headship of Adam – our old nature. God’s grace empowers us to say ‘No’ to what we know to be sin for us. God’s grace brings a hunger in the very core of our being for the abiding presence of God. Grace causes us to desire purity and to be holy as God is holy.

Grace not only strengthens us to overcome temptation, but also fear and worry. Grace brings peace in the midst of the storms of life. Our day to day reactions to life circumstances visibly testify to the grace of God. Grace also empowers us to forgive and to overlook offenses. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:14)

In April 1999 testimony was given at a ministry conference in Dallas by two mothers who found the grace to forgive the men who murdered their daughters. Why is it then that we find it so difficult to forgive others for minor hurts and offenses? Why do husbands and wives allow the little things said or done to get ‘under their skin’ and become a root of bitterness that robs their home of peace?

If Barnabas were to follow you around for a day, week, or month would he rejoice in seeing the grace of God manifested in your life? As Christians we have all received grace upon grace through Jesus Christ. As followers of Christ, God expects us to freely give grace to others.

May you be an ambassador for Christ in this dark world in accordance with the grace given to you and allow His grace to be poured out to others. May God’s grace be evident in your daily walk and talk.

Concert of Prayer – Holy, Loving, Perfect #976

CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 976

be holy “Holy, Loving, Perfect”

For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44)

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)

You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)

I grew up in a religious tradition based upon works righteousness. I was never sure of my salvation feeling like I had to earn it again and again. I remember vividly the only time in my life that I took the Lord’s Name in vain. I was picked off trying to steal home plate during a baseball game and I swore. I expected lightning to immediately fall from the sky and that I would become ‘bacon on the baseline’ for my sin. I left the game and ran to confession to seek absolution.

As I reflect on these three Scriptures I am reminded of how futile works righteousness is.

God expects us to be holy. I cannot live a holy lifestyle in my own power, strength and ability.

God exhorts us to be loving. I have to confess that I do not act out in love toward all people all the time. I confess that when I choose to sin, I am choosing to not love God with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind.

God commands us to be perfect. I cannot. Lord knows I have tried and I simply cannot.

The command of God in these three Scriptures is not designed to bring us to hopeless despair but rather to drive us by God’s grace to the hope we have through Jesus Christ. It is through His death and resurrection that we may have eternal life. It is by His grace and through Jesus that we can live an overcoming life this side of eternity.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ… (Titus 2:11-13)

By God’s grace the Holy Spirit empowers us to make right choices to be holy, loving, and perfect. When our heart’s desire is truly to seek first His kingdom and righteousness, we become more attuned to His abiding presence and can more clearly hear and obey His voice and direction.

May our hearts yield to the Holy Spirit and by His grace may we learn to renounce all ungodliness as we grow in grace to be holy, loving and perfect. We pray in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
