Sword of the Spirit – Surpasses Knowledge #1318

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT                                                                                               1318

“Surpasses Knowledge”

And to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. – Ephesians 3:19

I love to study the sciences: physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, biology and anatomy. I have found that the more I study the more I appreciate how marvelous our Creator God is.

Take astronomy for example and try to wrap your head around  the vastness and immeasurable nature of His creation of the universe and what lies beyond. We can only see a glimpse of what God has created and its intricacies. Who can deny our Creator God?

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years. – Genesis 1:14

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. – Psalm 19:1

I recall camping in the mountains of Colorado far away from man-made light pollution and marveling at the night sky. This was a small example of what David as a shepherd and psalmist must have seen at night.

Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting… He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. – Psalm 147:1-5

Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number,     calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one is missing. – Isaiah 40:26

All aspects of His creation declare His glory as it is revealed to us in nature or through the study of the sciences. But, as our Scripture reference declares, what really boggles the mind is to comprehend the love of God for us through Jesus Christ. Try, if you will, to understand this Agape love.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life; For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. – John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:21

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8:3-9

Wrap your head and your hearts around this: These tiny, seemingly insignificant carbon-based specks of humanity in the vastness of God’s creation are created in His image and through faith in Jesus Christ we step from being His intricate creation to being called His sons and daughters.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. – Psalm 139:14

Can you begin to understand it? The God of the universe, creator of heaven and earth loves us as His children through faith in Jesus. He is our loving Abba, Father, Daddy.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. – John 1:12-13

May the Holy Spirit bring you to know the love of Christ that surpasses human knowledge.

May you be filled with the fullness of Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, through faith in Jesus Christ.

May you never cease to worship, praise, and marvel at the goodness and love of God as you walk with Him all the days of your life.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them; Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. – Ephesians 2:10; Colossians 2:6-7
