SWORD OF THE SPIRIT 1239
“No Other Name”

This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:11-12
We are in error when we disassociate the second person of the Trinity from His Name. Far too many people use His Name flippantly in anger and rage and then call on His Name when they are in need as if it were a magic incantation. Yet, they have no personal relationship with the Son of God, whose Name is Jesus.
Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. – Acts 19:13-16
Notice in our reference Scripture from Acts chapter 4 the preface ‘This Jesus’. There were many people named Jesus, but it was only ‘This Jesus’ – this person who has become the cornerstone of our salvation.
It is This Jesus of whom the angel spoke to Joseph and Mary.
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
It is This Jesus who is fully God and fully man.
For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily – Colossians 2:9
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high – Hebrews 1:3
Our salvation, the healing of our infirmities, our protection and the daily provision of our needs comes from the power of God which resides in the Person of Christ whose Name is Jesus.
Authority in This Jesus
And Jesus came and said to them, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. – Matthew 28:18
In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. – John 16:23-24
Power in This Jesus
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. – John 14:12-14
Love is found in This Jesus
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
Salvation is found only in This Jesus
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. – 1 John 5:13
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Romans 10:13
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6
As you reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of This Jesus during Easter focus on the person of Jesus.
Seek Him, not just to know His Name, but rather to know Him in a deeper, more intimately personal relationship.
He is the One who died for your sins and mine. He is the only one whose Name is Jesus by which we are saved to eternal life and given power for living in this world as we await His coming.
There is no other Name.
