Sword of the Spirit – Upside Down World – #1033

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT                                                                                               1033

“Upside Down World

There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, as it were an error proceeding from the ruler: folly is set in many high places, and the rich sit in a low place. I have seen slaves on horses, and princes walking on the ground like slaves. (Ecclesiastes 10:5-8)

Our world is an upside down – inside out world filled with moral incongruity. The celebrations in the streets of Ireland this week over the abolishment of the ban on abortions made me sick to my stomach. The upside was the signing of the fetal heartbeat bill in Iowa. The inside-out twist expected is that the bill will be blocked by a Federal Judge and it will never see the light of day as have many other such bills before it.

The Truth of God’s Word informs us that this is not a new thing. Our world has been suffering from moral incongruity since the fall of Adam and Eve. Elijah, a great man of God, sat distraught in a cave while the evil personified Jezebel boasted in the luxury of a palace.

The righteous man, Mordecai lived on the street while the evil Haman lived in luxury, plotting to kill all the Jews while seeking more power and the favor of the king.

David lived in caves, pursued like a dog while Saul lived in luxury in the palace.

Jesus, the Son of God, fully God and fully man, served the lowliest of the low while evil ruled in luxurious palaces. And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” (Luke 9:58)

We are not without hope, however. The Lord hears and answers prayer. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16) The Lord has and does intervene in our topsy-turvy world and bring it right side up on occasion.

Justice prevailed and Jezebel met a violent death.

Haman was hung on the gallows of his own making and Mordecai received his reward.

David became King and Jesus overcame death and was resurrected, paving the way for eternal life for all who would believe in Him. As Jesus said: So the last will be first, and the first last. (Matthew 20:16)

Western society has all but forsaken the Lord, worshipping at the altar of Baal and sacrificing their unborn children to the god of mammon.

May we enter into intercessory prayer seeking God to intervene, bring revival of hearts, and heal our land. May the Lord stay the hand of our blinded, hard-hearted judiciary and allow laws to be passed that will protect the lives and rights of unborn children.

Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus and turn our world right side up again.
