“Making a Difference”
If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
Picture your face in the mirror. Now imagine how your face would look if your bone structure were changed, modified, or missing altogether. It is the underlying bone infrastructure that provides the foundation for your characteristic appearance. Similarly, our society’s culture and character is defined and shaped by its infrastructure – the ‘bones of our culture’ if you will.
There are seven interdependent structural elements that largely define our culture and sadly, they are being destroyed. The Psalmist asks a pointed question: “…what can the righteous do?” The circumstances seem insurmountable and impossible to change but that is a lie of the enemy to discourage you. We can all positively impact our culture beginning with our personal sphere of influence making a difference in the lives of one person at a time. Collectively, as the Body of Christ we can make a difference in our society. The seven areas we can impact are as follows:
Church: Stop merely going to church and be the church. You are salt and light. Salt must be poured out and light must be shined in the world and not hidden behind the walls of a steeple-roofed building. (Matthew 5:13-16)
Government: Don’t give apathy a foothold and vote. Vote biblical values. Make your collective voice heard. Be involved. If called to lead and serve then do so with integrity and the evidence of the character of Christ which is the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:16-25)
Education: Be involved in your children’s education – every day. Let your voice be heard on the curriculum changes that promote anti-Christian thought and seeks to indoctrinate our children in secular humanistic doctrine. (Proverbs 22:6)
Arts & Entertainment: Create change by withholding financial support of the garbage that is thrust upon our society. Influence your family by what you allow to be piped into your home. (Proverbs 4:23)
Business & Industry: Be salt and light in your place of work. (Colossians 3:23) Promote biblical values by choosing carefully where you shop. Make your voice heard – social media is a powerful tool to affect positive change in business practices. (Jeremiah 17:11)
Information Media: Don’t be duped and misinformed by carefully spun media sound bites. Prayerfully seek to discern the truth and act accordingly. (Philippians 1:9-10)
Families: This is our immediate sphere of influence and a hinge pin of our society. Is it any surprise then that the family unit is the center of attack by satan? Marriage is being redefined as well as what constitutes a family. Divorce has fragmented much of the backbone of our society. Fight to protect the spiritual and physical integrity of your family. Make your house a home. Make it a safe place where the love and presence of God abides. (Joshua 24:15)
May you rise up, empowered by the Holy Spirit and say ‘Enough!’ May you take authority in the Name of Jesus and choose to make a difference in changing our culture along these seven areas of influence as the Lord provides you with divine appointments and an opportunity to do so. These dry bones shall live in the Name of Jesus!
…O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live…and you shall know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 37:3-6)
