CONCERT OF PRAYER

Pray Week 810

“Power Failure”

2 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV)  His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence…

Florida has the highest lightning strike density of anywhere in the United States with about 12 strikes per square mile each year.  It is no wonder then that Floridians also experience numerous power failures.  It seems we are always resetting appliances and clocks with blinking displays.

Isn’t that the way we feel spiritually some times?  Have you ever felt that the power of God has failed you in some area or circumstance in your life?

It is important to note that the Lord’s power never fails.  We, however, do fail to use His power.  It is one thing to have power fail at its source.  It is quite another thing to fail to plug into the power source in the first place.

…God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5b

Do you take apart an electric appliance or device to troubleshoot its problem before first checking to see if it is even plugged in or receiving power?  Why then do we attempt to ‘fix’ our situations in our own strength and through our own devices before we tap into the power of God through prayer?

…The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. – James 5:16

Do you find yourself losing sleep and fretting about your current trials and difficulties?  Are you stressed out and at a breaking point?  Stop for a moment and make sure you are solidly plugged into the power of God that is available and within you as His child.

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you … for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Tim 1:6

God’s answers to our prayers are not always immediate.  Sometimes our circumstances are protracted for a season as God develops our character and does a mighty work in our heart and soul.  When we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness we tap into the almighty and awesome power of God for living in this world.

For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. – 1 Cor 4:20

We may be in the flesh, but through Christ we have the fullness of the power of God’s unfailing power dwelling in us.

For in him (Jesus) the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. – Col 2:9

May you recognize that God’s power has never failed you.  May you seek first His kingdom and His righteousness thereby remaining solidly plugged into the power of His indwelling presence.

May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy… – Col 1:11
