“Depth Perception”

Isaiah 43:19 (ESV)  Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?  I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Have you ever gone through times where you feel trapped in your parched, wilderness circumstances and helpless to change them?

You cry out to God and encourage yourself with His Word only to have your hope dashed to pieces at the next negative turn of events and you wonder why God allowed it to happen and why He does not act more quickly to deliver you through these trials.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness… – 2 Peter 3:9

Consider the possibility that it is our own impatience that gives us the perception that God does not hear us or that He is slow to act on our behalf.  The problem lies with our lack of depth perception. Depth perception does not work when our eyes are closed.  The eyes of our hearts must be open in order to perceive the depth of God’s love and provision for us.

He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. – 2 Kings 6:14

We are not alone in our wilderness experiences.  God is doing a new thing in our lives and in the lives of others through us and the host of heaven surrounds us to protect us and see us through our present trials.

I bow my knees before the Father …that he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit … so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you …may have strength to comprehend … what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. – Ephesians 3:14

It comes down to a personal choice.  I can choose to keep the eyes of my heart closed or I can open them to the truth of God’s Word concerning His love for me.  I can choose to close my eyes in defeat or I can open them with a depth of perception of the conqueror that I am through the abiding presence of Jesus Christ.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:37
